A New City in the USSR

On the banks of the Volga, in heart of Russia, Togliatti appears to be one of the most ambitious New City creations of the second half of the 20^th century.
Dam construction by Gulag prisoners, then the AvtoVAZ automobile plant in cooperation with Fiat, and the erection of a new, entirely prefabricated city centre: Togliatti shines a spotlight on one of the least known but most significant aspects of the history of 20^th-century architecture. This exploration of previously hidden archives shows how the Soviet regime, from Stalin to Bresnev, intended to create a new world.
