Though Charlie Bauer only gives an account of his life-story, he calls to mind nearly half a century of history. He was arrested in 1963 and in 1966 sentenced to imprisonment for looting trains and stores. From then on, transfers from one prison to another marked his days and, for nine years, he was locked up in cells or in High Security Prisons (the famous French Quartier de Haute Sécurité – QHS). After 14 years behind bars, he was released, only to resume his life as an outlaw. He got acquainted with Jacques Mesrine, at the time when he was advocating the abolition of QHS prisons, but soon committed other offenses and was locked up again until 1988.
