This Next Love

A woman lets herself be persuaded to give up her job, have children, raise them on her own, survive a multitude of ordinary, everyday acts of violence and abuse and hears herself repeating, time and time again, that courage is a man's thing. Who'd manage to stay calm in those circumstances? The narrator in this book is inspired more by the nurse who threw stones at the French riot police last summer. Because one thing's for sure: if there's any salvation, it is to be found in the humanity that continues to lie in wait in some of us, whether man or woman.
