Through the Wall

This explores how bodies, sights and sounds penetrate the frontiers of living in the cities of the Arab Orient; how daily life defines territories, controls their limits, negotiates their passing. This book is dedicated to the “arts of doing”, to boundaries and to rituals. It pays particular attention to language: how designations and turns of phrase, from Adonis to Ghassan Zaqtan, Naguib Mahfouz and Mahmoud Darwich, describe what happens “through the wall”.
