Democratic Implosion

Jean Viard begins with the observation that democracy as we know it no longer exists. It was structured by the existence of groups of people tied to the production conditions and territories of nations. But while classes and nations used to intermix, this is no longer the case today. Wealth gaps, the digital revolution, communitarianism, tourism... All of these elements (and many more) have contributed to making the goal of a worldwide revolution disappear.
In this new essay, the sociologist takes stock of a world whose codes have been permanently changed, and urges us to understand it in order to avoid tragedy.
