His name is Christian, however he refers to himself as "a heathen, with Buddhist tendencies". A Cop, recently divorced, he has a premonition about imminent misfortune which isn't long in coming : nine of the most beautiful statues of Notre Dame are beheaded, then a young woman, the first in a long line… The enquiry which Bompart heads leads him to make the acquaintance of a number of flamboyant characters. He quickly feels that he is mixed up in this business. His fears are confirmed when the murderer threatens the one he holds most dear, his ex. This first investigation by the Commissioner is mind-blowing : the reader falls under the charm of Christian and becomes involved in the complexities of a plot which keeps him on tenterhooks until the final outcome of this psychological detective story.
