Mr Léonard is an influential art critic who unsettles his targets and inspires fear. One artist, however, escapes his condemnation: he harbours a real and sincere admiration for Paul Cézanne, a solitary and grumpy artist whom he dreads meeting. When the occasion finally presents itself, these two strong-minded men with their legendary determination begin a passionate dialogue about art and science.
