This photographic project about Velle de Scampia, a district of Naples made famous by the TV series Gomorrah, stems from an encounter between the Belgian photographer Olivier Galicis and a former member of the Camorra, Davide Cerullo. The neighborhood is among the poorest in Italy. For those born there, the probability of surviving the age of twenty-five is 40%. Endemic unemployment pushes young people to work illegally or—in most cases—to take part in drug trafficking: Scampia is considered Europe's largest retail drug supermarket.
