Marseille Euro-Mediterranean, Catalyst for a Metropolis

Marseille has been severely challenged by the transformation of the port and industrial plant, and has seen an increase in unemployment and in social exclusion. Today, a vast socio economic and urban regeneration scheme - Euro-Mediterranean - has been put in place covering approximately 1200 acres.  At the heart of an urban project, it aims to link disparate areas which historically have been badly treated, in order to make the hinterland zone more attractive, to reposition the town in the centre of its urban region and in a wider context of the whole Euro-Mediterranean conurbation.
