Marseillais of the North

At the start of the 1990s, the Minister for Culture asked artists to carry out a review of France. It fell to photographer Gilles Favier to review Marseille and its so-called “sensitive” neighbourhoods. He concentrated on La Renaude, an estate divided between Arab and gipsy families, on where he created a high-quality photo report. Examining this body of images 25 years on, journalist Philippe Pujol looks at the issues affected this neighbourhood in the great tradition of literary journalism.
