Wittgenstein has never concealed his antipathy for modern civilization. However, unlike many others, he has never attempted to draw up a philosophy out of it. Wittgenstein’s attitude as regards our contemporary world has meant avoiding the waste of time and energy involved in the pathos of protest, disapproval and lament, which most intellectuals currently indulge in so willingly, while making do, as soberly as possible, with the conditions that were imposed on him while completing of the task he deemed it his duty to accomplish.
