Aleppo My Love

Katharine Cooper travelled to Aleppo in April 2017, four months after its liberation from the terror of diverse factions such as Jabat al-Nosra, Fatah el-Sham and Daesh. She stayed six weeks, captivated by its gentleness, joie de vivre, richness and bounty of its land, and by its united and courageous inhabitants in the face of so much adversity. Although expecting to see destruction and deserted streets, she found men covered with the dust of reconstruction – an uncompromised, proud people, heads held high, offering princely hospitality with men and women stopping in the street to greet her, a stranger, to say "welcome!" .
