The Western Front archive was first opened when Stanley Greene and designer Teun van der Heijden were working on Black Passport. San Francisco, in the seventies and eighties, was an environment where 24/7 you lived, bled, drank, ate, screwed and made art. The punk movement was emerging. Stanley Greene was in the middle of it, surrounded by punk rock bands like : Flipper, the Dead Kennedy’s and The Mutants. SVT’s drummer Paul Zahl was his roommate. And he photographed this movement in the same way his friends played music: pure and raw.
