Maalesh

From 1938 to 1946, the photographer Etienne Sved took in Egypt more than 3000 exceptional photographs. In 1949, Maalesh, the travel book that Jean Cocteau had wroten during a theatre tour in Egypt was published. Two years latter, Sved realized the conformity of the two works and proposed to Cocteau a photographic version of Maalesh. In 2003, the Museum joigned forces with le Bec en l’Air to materialize the photographer’s plans. Today, words and photographs meet at least each other on paper into a poetic picture story.
